Tour Description:

Nestled in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains, tour HANCOCK SHAKER VILLAGE in the Shaker Community’s “City of Peace”. Explore Shaker life, arts, crafts and farming, and the extraordinary ROUND BARN. The day ends with a CANDLELIGHT SHAKER DINNER followed by SHAKER A CAPPELLA MUSIC PROGRAM. The following day takes us back to “The Gilded Aged” and a BERKSHIRE COTTAGES TOUR (estates of the Carnegies, Vanderbilt's, Westinghouse and Proctors—the American Aristocracy). Then it’s on to NAUMKEAG, a 26 room Norman style mansion home of Joseph Choate. We then tour THE MOUNT, home to Pulitzer Prize winner, Edith Wharton. After dinner, it’s TANGLEWOOD ON PARADE, featuring the BOSTON POPS, culminating with “The 1812 Overture”, where civil war cannons are fired in time to the music, ending with fireworks!

Wednesday begins with a History of the Berkshires tour, starting with the Mohican Indians, through the American Revolution, the Civil War and the Industrial Age! Then it’s off to WILLIAMSTOWN, one of the most beautiful towns in the Berkshires. Then be inspired at the STERLING & FRANCINE CLARK ART INSTITUTE, including an extraordinary collection of Impressionists and Renaissance paintings—and more than 30 Renoirs. We will spend the afternoon in Bennington, VT, where a local guide brings history alive, including the BENNINGTON BATTLE MONUMENT. Then visit GRANDMA MOSES’ SCHOOLHOUSE before an East Coast feast and entertainment.

Thursday presents more to explore in Tanglewood, named by Nathaniel Hawthorne, before heading to the NORMAN ROCKWELL MUSEUM and a tour of picturesque STOCKBRIDGE, MA. We then tour CHESTERWOOD, home to Daniel French, the sculptor of the seated Lincoln memorial in DC. Tour his home, studio, and the shortest railway in the world! We will end our day with dinner and WILLIAMSTOWN THEATRE FESTIVAL!
